That's right friends. We have not one, not two, not three, but EIGHT (8) albums with titles that begin with the contraction "It's". And guess what else! That's right, we finally make it to albums with titles that begin with the letter J as in Juliett.
Season 5, Episode 48 is now available for your listening pleasure. We've got some gonzo country, neo-surf/garage rock, classic hip-hop, regional garage rock, middle-aged rocker identity crisis arena rock, The Bakersfield Sound, blue-eyed soul, a double shot of Italian nostalgia, more ominous organ music, free funk, calypso, and some jazzy jazz! Check it out!
Since Your Old Pal Will had to take a break from show production last week, there's a whole bunch of tunes that have been added to the 2021 Ear Worm of the Day playlist, including numbers by Alex Chilton, Pink Floyd, Emma Ruth Rundle + Thou, Hannah Peel, The Smithereens, Australian Blonde, Harry Nilsson, The Cure, CAN, The Parting Gifts, IKOQWE, Tame Impala, and illuminati hotties. Enjoy!
Inside a Monkey's Brain
S05E48 Cover Image: Theresa Russell in Bad Timing (Roeg, 1980). Why? The first song of the second set is The Who's "Athena", a song that Pete Townshend wrote after meeting Theresa Russell. The original title was "Theresa" but was changed to protect Pete Townshend's spurned ego.
S05E48 Music Behind the DJ: "5-4=Unity" by Pavement. Why? A little bit of a switcheroo. Usually, I would go for a nice easy listening/cool jazz instrumental for the music bed, but since we've got the Dave Brubeck Quartet in this episode, I figured why not use Pavement's goofy take on "Take 5".
S05E48 Amplifier Header Image: The Monty Python foot descends upon The Simpsons in the opening couch gag from "Homer Goes to College" (Season 5, Episode 3). Once I noticed that the first 8 albums in this episode started with It's, well the opening of Monty Python's Flying Circus featuring Michael Palin's The "It's" Man was all I could think about.
We'll be comfortably ensconced in Albums with Titles that Begin with the Letter J as in Juliett for another episode or two (or more), so sit back, relax, and enjoy the aural landscape.
Stay safe, stay masked, and stay tuned!
