Hello, dear listeners! Another episode, another zig-zag across the musical map that is Vinyl-O-Matic. I think you're gonna like it.
Season 5, Episode 46 is now available for your listening pleasure. There's some ambient doom metal, improvisational comedy, Antipodean indie pop, classic power pop, classic pop jazz, country blues, rhythm and blues, pop rhythm and blues, quintessential goth, and some general crooning.
Of course, I have some fresh additions to the 2021 Ear Worm of the Day playlist. Since last we transmitted, I've added Chick Corea, The Exbats, Raphael Saadiq, The Beatles, The Geraldine Fibbers, Jorge López Ruiz, and Stevie Nicks. I should probably mention that earworms aren't always the choice tracks, they're the ones that get stuck in your head. Nevertheless, enjoy!
Inside a Monkey's Brain
S05E46 Cover Image: Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles performing together at the Fillmore West, as photographed by Robert Altman. Why? Aretha is the last song of the second set and Ray is the first song of the third set in this episode. Together again!
S05E46 Music Behind the DJ: "My Cherie Amour" by Perry Botkin Jr. & his Orchestra. Why? Stevie Wonder makes an appearance in the third set of this episode.
S05E46 Amplifier Header Image: Sideshow Mel and Krusty the Klown chit-chat in The Simpsons episode "Old Yeller-Belly" (Season 14, Episode 19). Why? As I mentioned, this Vinyl-O-Matic episode is pretty wacky.
As you might surmise, we'll continue our journey through albums with titles that begin with the letter I as in India next time. Join me, won't you?
Stay safe, stay masked, and stay tuned!
